Greetings to all friends of The Mermaid & The Cow Campground!

Summer Fun

Geoff and Jeff are sweet on each other! The summer so far has been busy, hot and lots of fun! The new "gayzebo" building has been a great success and has proven to be an integral part of the The Mermaid & The Cow Campground experience. The pool has been crystal clear, and guests have spent many hours sunbathing, splashing around like kids and joking and laughing with each to beat the band. The night skies have often been spectacular and many folks have commented that the country air makes for great sleeping!

Beef calves getting bigger every day at The Mermaid & The CowOn the farm front, the hay is all in, the beef calves, meat chickens and pigs are all growing well...and the cows are munching down on a combination of pasture and sweet tasty second-cut clover hay. Guests at the campground are welcome to request a tour of the farm and animals...there's always something interesting to learn (e.g., who knew...that cows are naturaly bisexual?)

Alas, the summer is starting to wind down and there's only so many days left that are suitable for tenting...so come on down to the campground while the weather's still warm...and enjoy all the campground has to offer: a beautiful location and a welcoming, respectful LGBT space in which you can be yourselves (not a common experience at regular "family" campgrounds!), get together with pals and meet new friends. The campground will remain open this year until after the Thanksgiving weekend, October 11th. And BTW, there are still openings for booking the cabin between September 6th and the Thanksgiving weekend.

Upcoming Mardi Gras Event for the Labour Day Weekend

The ancient Greeks showed up in their handmade togas one SaturdayMardi Gras returns to the campground this year on the Labour Day weekend, September 3rd, 4th and 5th! This special "end of summer" celebration event costs $50 plus tax per person, and includes three nights of tent camping, a Costume Ball Dance with DJ Bruce MacDonald on Saturday, and a big cornboil and potluck supper on Sunday evening. And of course there will be a community campfire each night, and day-time activities available for your pleasure such as washer-toss, croquet and badminton, swimming, hanging out on the pool deck, hiking and socializing...all the things you have come to know and love about the ONE and ONLY gay campground in Nova Scotia!

As a sort of preview to the Mardi Gras mood....The photo to the left is of a group of friends some of you will recognize...who recently created their own "Greek theme dinner" at the campground...and dressed suitably for the occasion, adorned beautifully as they were in campy "dollar store" paraphernalia. They graciously visited other campers and brought smiles and pleasure to everyone's faces!

Spots are filling up fast for the Mardi Gras weekend, so if you are thinking of coming please book now! Call me at 902-351-2714 or email me at jane.morrigan@gmail.com to let me know which area of the campground you'd prefer to set up your tent. I will ask you for your credit card number to hold the booking...and then you can get your costume ready for the Ball!

Donations Welcome for Silent Auction at Mardi Gras

A Silent auction of donated items will be held throughout the Mardi Gras weekend to raise money for the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans & Intersex Association (ILGA), see their website at http://ilga.org/ . They are fighting against discrimination and recently published the 2010 report on State-sponsored homophobia (survey of laws prohibiting same sex activity between consenting adults), in which 76 countries around the world still consider homosexuality illegal, and five of them punish homosexual acts with death. For two years running, a donation to ILGA has been made by The Mermaid & The Cow Campground on behalf of guests who have contributed coins and bills in the "ILGA donation jar" at the campground. This year, I am hoping to raise a larger amount through a silent auction of donated items. Please send vouchers or coupons for goods and services that you are associated with, or arts and crafts, homemade and collectible items. If you will be attending the Mardi Gras weekend, please bring your donation with you!

The Mermaid & The Cow now has an official Facebook fan page!

Check out the new Facebook fan page to see what people are saying about their experiences at the campground, and to see photo albums, news and upcoming events.

Please sign up to join the fan club if you wish and add your own comments and photos to share with others! (Note: Please be careful not to post photos of people who have not given you permission to do so...remember, not everyone is "out")
